Who We Are

Founded in 1975, L’Arche Arnprior is a member of the International Federation of L’Arche communities founded by Jean Vanier (see video below).  L’Arche is a dynamic example of how people of different intellectual capacity, social origin and culture can live and grow together.  Being part of a worldwide family enriches the lives of all our members.  In a world that often sees people with intellectual disabilities as less that whole, L’Arche celebrates their creativity, transparency and capacity for joy as important gifts to be shared.  Each person has unique gifts to discover and contribute.  L’Arche Arnprior receives funding from the Ministry of Community and Social Services to provide supports so that the members with intellectual disabilities can live a good life. People are drawn to our community from all over the world seeking a different way of life and bringing with them a wide range of beliefs, backgrounds and qualifications.  Assistants discover a sense of purpose born out of the challenge of community life.  Orientation and training fosters personal growth, competence and lasting friendships. L’Arche Arnprior is a community rooted in the Christian faith which is non-denominational and welcomes people of all or no faith traditions.  We are blessed today with a vibrant and diverse community.  Living with differences isn’t always easy, yet we celebrate our diversity weaving a beautiful tapestry which reflects our core belief that each person has a unique and sacred value which enriches our life together.
